Servers connect Wonderware software and GE PLCs

A DA Server for connectivity to General Electric PLCs uses Service Request Transfer Protocol to provide real-time, configurable read-and-write access from Wonderware software.

Wonderware, a business unit of Invensys Systems, has released of its DA Server for connectivity to General Electric (GE) programmable logic controllers (PLCs). This new advanced device connectivity server uses GE's Service Request Transfer Protocol (SRTP) to provide real-time, configurable read-and-write access from Wonderware software to GE PLCs. The SRTP within the new Wonderware DA Server is layered on top of TCP/IP in order to communicate with GE's Series 90, Versamax and Pacsystems PLCs.

Wonderware DA Servers leverage industry standards-based archestra technology, Wonderware's SuiteLink protocol, OPC technology and DDE to connect Wonderware software with third-party products and OPC-compliant devices and applications.

They also support simultaneous connectivity to multiple client nodes, enabling users to easily expand their existing supervisory HMI, SCADA and production and performance management applications.

Wonderware DA Servers incorporate advanced functionality through a user interface, facilitating local, remote, on-the-fly and hot configuration changes.

Users can add new devices and nodes to the network without taking the DA Server offline.

With these capabilities and support for runtime changes and robust server diagnostics, the DA Server simplifies system maintenance and administration.

Migration to enhanced DA Servers is designed to be a simple and seamless process.

'For those currently using Wonderware's DA Server for GE I/O, migration to the enhanced DA Server leveraging GE's SRTP is simple,' said Tim Black, device integration manager for Wonderware.

'Users simply import the configuration file into the DA Server interface software and it's ready to run.

This new DA Server is the most recent addition to Wonderware's family of DA Server products, which are designed to provide customers tighter integration capabilities with device and control networks, reducing the amount of configuration necessary for device communications.

Wonderware is committed to providing its customers with connectivity software solutions that significantly reduce the need for additional PLC hardware and vendor-supplied middleware.' The DA Server for connectivity to GE PLCs complies with the OPC 2.05 protocol, enabling interoperability with any OPC client application.

Additionally, OPC clients can browse the DA Server's configured tag database and easily obtain device tags for use in client applications.

This timesaving feature provides a convenient method for retrieving and building a tag database within the client application. Bankruptcy
