Are You Aware Of Internet Website Laws And Compliance?
You need to be aware of the many entities keeping watch on your websites and emails. The FTC and numerous Attorneys General do prosecute business owners and individuals exhibiting on the internet for violations they consider wrong or, too often, for political gain. Your competition is constantly watching you and learning how you do your internet marketing business. People you don't even know, but with whom you compete worldwide line up to watch your every move. "Crackpots" worldwide have access to your website even if they have no business watching you.
This is the discouraging downside of what should be a rewarding and profitable experience for anyone promoting their favorite business on the World Wide Web. Much of this downside is because of personal greed, unethical competition and as mentioned before "Political Gain".
Arming yourself with the necessary information to eliminate or reduce these negative effects to a manageable level is difficult. There are attorneys that specialize in Internet Business, but they are few and far between, not to mention the extreme cost involved in utilizing their expertise. The cost of litigation after something happens is either not affordable or so costly that life beyond this litigation, because of time and outrageous expense, becomes nearly unbearable.
If you believe that your business is so small that no one will notice, be aware the ones coming after you may be the wealthy ones and they have no concern that a lawsuit will financially devastate your life, but will accomplish removing you as competition, enhance their Political Stature and/or accomplish some weird personal satisfaction.
Remember: If someone files a report with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) or an Attorney General, you WILL be investigated. Everything you do or represent will be investigated-not just your internet business, but EVERYTHING personal, too.
This could even arise out of an innocent email sent by mistake or just leaving out certain wording when considering what kind (sales offer or?) of an email it was. All the problems mentioned in the preceding paragraphs comes under the heading of "Internet Fraud". A serious criminal offense!
We can't answer why these things are handled in such a serious manner, but we can understand why the emphasis is on attempting to prevent fraud. Remember most laws are written by Legislators and Senators whose occupations are in the legal field (attorneys).
There are very few informative texts and ebooks on Internet Law that are readable and to a degree understandable for the non-legal minded persons involved in internet business. Anyone can search the internet to find suitable writings. A prepaid attorney service can maybe give reliable information. Most family attorneys do not have the complete knowledge needed to give proper advice. Attorneys specializing in internet law are few, but if you can access one it will be very expensive. Finding reliable reasonably priced help in this field is difficult. With more activities by individuals and small businesses hopefully advice will become more reasonable and accurate.
The individual marketer should not be discouraged to the point of giving up on the search for a viable business, but must remain vigilant and determined to see it through. Integrity in your activities is the most valuable tool you have and with that constant in mind you will succeed.
