Data Highways
We Look At Chipsets From Intel, VIA & NVIDIA
As CPU speeds continue to increase, the rest of your computer's components must also get faster; or else, they can become data bottlenecks that slow down system performance. Unfortunately, none of your computer's other components are quite as speedy as the CPU, so even when data buses and other subsystems make significant speed increases, they always lag behind the processor in terms of data processing speed. But make no mistake; the proper chipset combined with the right processor can make all the difference between a sub-par system and a speed demon.
In the next few pages, we'll take a close look at some of the chipsets from Intel, VIA, and NVIDIA that we used in this issue. These represent the current state of the art in chipset know-how, and incorporate some of the newest technologies available today, including AGP 8X, DDR2 SD-RAM, SATA, USB 2.0, Gigabit Ethernet, and others. So strap yourself in and get ready for a cruise down your PC's information superhighway.
