Card reader meets PC by USB

Flint Smart is introducing an addition to its swipe card reader range, which offers simple interfacing to PC-based systems through a built-in USB interface. Aimed at end-user applications, the Omron V3TU complies with USB Final Specification 1.0, providing data transmission at the standard's medium speed, 1.5Mbit/s. Connection is via a detachable cable with a four-pin USB plug included in Vbus, GND, Data+ and Data- configuration.
USB is increasingly replacing RS-232C as the standard interface for PC peripherals such as scanners and printers, offering users the key benefits of hot plug-and-play installation together with simple interconnection using USB hubs.
The USB port also provides power to the swipe reader direct from the host PC, eliminating the need to connect to a separate supply outlet.
Maximum requirements are 100mA through a 4.4-5.25V DC feed.
For reading, the V3TU can read up to three magnetic card tracks simultaneously, and cards may be swiped in either direction.
Flint supplies the unit complete with Windows Driver Model software to simplify integration with PC-based access management, identification and point-of-sale systems
