One-inch disks provide high-density storage
Flint Smart is supplementing its comprehensive catalogue of card options by stocking the IBM family of Microdrives. These high-capacity devices offer removable storage of up to 1Gbyte in a compact 1in hard disk ideal for portable applications. They integrate readily with hand-held devices through the use of a standard CF+** Type II form factor, compatible with PCMCIA Type II via a suitable adapter.
Applications include extended data storage for digital cameras, digital audio players, handheld and notebook PCs.
Advanced technologies are incorporated in the Microdrive, including giant magnetoresistive (GMR) heads, load/unload features, Enhanced Adaptive Battery Life Extender 3.0 and TrueTrack servo.
Together these work to ensure fast data transfer along with high reliability and large recording density.
The maximum sustained data rate of 4Mbyte/s gives the Microdrive a major performance edge over Flash cards; while reliability is guaranteed at better than 1 error per 10,000Gbit transferred, with a lifetime of 300,000 unload cycles.
Weighing just 16g, the Microdrive operates over the 0 to 65C temperature band.
Flint has 340Mbyte, 512Mbyte and 1Gbyte capacities available from stock, plus an optional travel kit with PC Card and field carrying case.
